European Geopark Network
A European Geopark is an area, or ‘territory’, which has outstanding geological heritage, and is using that heritage to provide sustainable economic benefits to the area. The European Geoparks Network (EGN) 
works in collaboration with the Global Geoparks Network (GGN), supported by UNESCO, in which there are currently 87 Geoparks from 27 Member States worldwide.
There are currently 49 European Geoparks within the EGN, and this number is increasing all the time. The UK alone has seven Geoparks, including two in Scotland, two in England, two in Wales and one that crosses the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.
Members of the EGN and GGN share ideas, experiences and skills and work closely with other members on joint projects. The emphasis on long-term sustainable development with community involvement is essential for a successful Geopark.
