Geopark Shetland joins ShEEP

Shetland Environmental Education Partnership (ShEEP) is a group of local organisations with an environmental remit working in partnership to support education throughout the Shetland Islands.

ShEEP in Schools

In October 2009 ShEEP launched an education folder detailing the curriculum linked schools activities offered free of charge by member organisations. This folder was presented to every school in Shetland and is available on Glow, the national schools intranet for Scotland.

2011

Sheep Dip 2011In May 2011 the Shetland Environmental Education Partnership held two days of environmental activities at the Voxter Outdoor Centre near Brae. P5-7 pupils from North and Central Shetland were encouraged to engage with and explore the world around them. Activities were led by Shetland Amenity Trust Woodlands Squad, the RSPB, Carbon Reduction Shetland and Shetland Islands Council Environmental Services, with support from the Shetland Museum and Archives and the NAFC Marine Centre. The Geopark helped SIC staff lead a 'redd up' to highlight the importance of environmental conservation and the damage that litter does to Shetland's landscape and wildlife.

2010

Sheep Dip 2010ShEEP DIP 2010 took place at Old Scatness Broch and Iron Age Village in the South Mainland of Shetland. P3-4 pupils from South and Central Shetland enjoyed workshops led by the RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage, NAFC Marine Centre and Carbon Reduction Shetland, with support from Shetland Islands Council Environmental Services. Geopark Shetland teamed up with Old Scatness living history staff to explore the relationship between the human inhabitants of Shetland and their rocky resources. Many thanks go to Star Rent-a-Car for sponsoring the event.
